Working primarily from a centralized control room, the operator uses SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems to monitor and control remote field equipment. This role coordinates with field teams, responds to alarms, troubleshoots issues, and ensures all facilities operate within safety and environmental standards.

The essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

System Monitoring & Operation

  • Monitor real-time data from SWDs, pipelines, pump stations, tanks, and other assets via SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Analyze process variables including pressure, flow rates, and tank levels to ensure optimal performance.
  • Remotely start, stop, and adjust pumps, compressors, and valves as needed.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to system alarms, process upsets, and abnormal conditions.
  • Perform remote shutdowns or slowdowns in coordination with field personnel.

Communication & Coordination

  • Maintain clear, ongoing communication with field operators, maintenance crews, and supervisors.
  • Relay operational updates, alarms, or equipment status promptly to relevant teams.
  • Document all significant events and actions in a shift log for accurate handover.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Accurately record disposal volumes, injection pressures, chemical usage, and other operational data.
  • Maintain digital and physical records for internal and regulatory review.

Safety & Environmental Stewardship

  • Monitor for signs of leaks, spills, or any condition that could pose an environmental or safety risk.
  • Follow and support emergency response protocols.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Report all incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions promptly.

System Troubleshooting & Optimization

  • Utilize remote diagnostics to identify issues with pumps, valves, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering to resolve recurring or complex problems.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and system uptime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or degree preferred (e.g., process tech, instrumentation).
  • Minimum 2 years of oil & gas or industrial operations experience, preferably in SWD or midstream.
  • Strong proficiency with SCADA/HMI platforms and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, flow diagrams, and equipment schematics.
  • Excellent communication and situational awareness.
  • Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards and operational safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts (days/nights/weekends/holidays) and respond to emergencies if needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily seated in a control room environment with long periods of computer/monitor use.
  • Occasionally required to visit field locations, sometimes in harsh outdoor conditions.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, and lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
  • Must remain alert and responsive in a high-paced, high-responsibility environment.
